I have one male on my 1231 Pukos that is opening this morning. The female on my 275 Van Hook won't open until tomorrow. I covered the 1231 Pukos just in case before I go to work.
If I leave the 1231 male covered all day, will the pollen still be good tomorrow? Thanks!

Jeremy, Might be too late for the 1231 male you're talking about, but it works well to pick males before hand, most of the time, the night before pollination. With the scenario you describe, I would have picked that male last night, put in it my refrigerator until tomorrow and then go do the pollinating thing. I worry, if you cover the male all day today (outside?) and try to use the pollen tomorrow, that might not be a plan for success.

Thanks for the advice Joe. It never crossed my mind to cut it and put it in the fridge for an extra day. I'll chalk this up as another learning experience. I'm hoping another male will perk up today and be ready for pollination tomorrow. If not, the 1161 Rodonis and 125 Wolf will be good also. -Jeremy

Jeremy....If you have a male opening today.... the next male on that vine should open tomorrow..Usually once you have the first males you get new ones opening just about everyday...fresh new pollen is the most trustworthy. Take a good look ...I bet you find there will be a new male opening in the morning..Mark

Thanks for the info Mark. My 1231 got hit hard with a freeze early in the season, and it is about 4 feet behind the other three plants. I didn't see any males this morning that looked like they might open tomorrow. I'm hoping a lot changes while I'm at work. Thanks again Mark. -Jeremy

One day fridge time will keep pollen to synch up blooms. Once a vine goes past 6-7 feet it is a daily pollen producer it seems. 8-10 feet it will go to 2-3 a day, so you are sure you have enough off that one plant to do the job!

Thanks again for all that replied. The 275 is going to open tomorrow, and there are 2 males on the 1231 that look like they will open. I am going to cover the 275 and cut the 2 males off the 1231, along with cutting a few males off the 1161 and 125. Thanks again! -Jeremy
