Okay, well every season I have at least one dream about my pumpkin plants wake me up in a cold sweat. Last night I dreamt that I accidently raked up my plants that were the size of seedlings growing in an elevated barrell. All I could think of was now I wouldn't have any pollinators and how I was going to explain it in my grower diary (sheesh). Anybody else have pumpkin nightmares?

My only pumpkin nightmares occur in the pumpkin patch while I'm fully awake.

Erin, I agree with GPD. My nightmare today was the 1385 female not open at 7 am when I went to work and it was wide open at 5 pm when I got home. Probably too late to take the pollen, but I tried anyway.

If you can't call in late for work then there are sleep aids in pill & liquid forms.

Whildbe,,, If that happens again and you know its gonna open, pry it open in the morning and still pollinate it. I been pollinating like that for years now. I pry mine open in the dark at about 5am before I go to work and pour the pollen in. Works like a charm, and about 90% of the time. This year Im 7 for 7 (knock on wood, have one more to go!,,lol)

Drag the extension cord and take a hair dryer to the patch. A warm air bath gets them up and at them!

Dreams, I rarely remember dreaming anymore.

Jake, I agree with Brooks, sometimes you have to 'pry' open the flowers. You'll know that the female is receptive if the pollen sticks to it. I too have to do all my work at 6:00 am before work. I pick my males the night before, put them in a glass of water at room temperature and the pollen is nice an fluffy the next morning.
