At what point of the season should the leaves around the stump area start looking bad as in dieing and stuff?

Also, we want to keep the stump area open as in clear, right?

When should i do this also?

The level of crispyness depends on the spray program and how much hot sun the leaves are getting. Once the plants are say 15 x 15 the leaves can be removed in order to keep the stump dry. The few leaves around the stump will not be missed.

ron (lol) now is the time to clean out around the base of your plants. the goal is to trim enough leaves off around the base to allow for sun and air flow. which in turn can help eliminate rot ,etc, later in the year.

some of us also make a small open book type cover ( by taping two pieces of plexiglass around one ft square together on one side to form a book type cover) and cover the base.

id clean out leaves in an area approximately 1 ft wide by 1.5 ft to 2ft long.

be sure to trim the leaf stem even with the vine, if you cut the leaf stem high you will leave a pocket where water will sit and could rot the vine.

by 1' wide and 2' long, which way do you mean?

2' the direction of the main vine or 2' the direction of first secondarys?

I'd say cut in whatever direction is going to get you some sun in there. During the peak of sunlight pull back leaves and look where you get sun to know you're cuttin the right ones off that matter most.

pap, the plexiglass cover does not overheat, the stump? Should I be worried about that type of prblm, down here, where I will have several upper 90 and low to mid 100 type of days? Peace, Wayne
