I have been holding off on fertilizing for a couple weeks due to the heat (90+ with heat indexes of 105-110) and because the plants seem to be doing good without, my only concern is all but (2) of my plants are not wanting to fan out into there christmas tree shape I am wondering if this is genetics or lack of "food" I would assume genetics since all the plants look nice green and healthy. I will post picks later this weekend to see if there is something obvious that I am missing, thanks for all the help everyone.

One of my plants stunted for about a week in the heat then started to grow like crazy the last few days. I think maybe it was growing roots because it wilted every day. does that sound like what is happening to you plants? Im just making a wild guess.

No not really, these things look great compared to last year it was 98deg yesterday with a head index of like 105deg and there was no wilting and I don't use misters or shade cloths, it really has me baffled, they really look healthy as can be, all the vines are past the 10' mark it's just that most of them are not putting much on for secondaries, Thanks

With this heat we learned last year that our vines started stoping themselves. Not sure if this is what yours is doing. Look at the ends of the sidevines. There should be a leaf and a bloom and tendril. If you have a cluster of blooms then it has self terminated itself. We already have a couple doing it this year and we have misters. Im not saying that is what is hapening to you but just look and see. :)

98 today, 1041 doing good. Finally got a shade cloth that is 30' X 30' so i covers the whole plant. My vines and leafs have really bad sun burn from earlyer in the week and 2 aborts on the main. plant hasnt stoped growing and hopefully this 3rd pollination i did today takes.

I have a few sides that have self terminated also. These plants have an incredible survival mode, they will do what it takes.

My 1180 daletas plant does not like anything over 85-90 degrees it did not grow much for a week . Now it started growing like crazy now that it has cooled down .I was ahead a week so it really did not matter. My 1689 jutras liked the heat and grew into 3/4 of its patch already. Its amazing how diffent the genetics are.

With hotter weather be proactive, and start that cooling and shading... if you apply fertilizer only at foliar strength and the 2 hours before dark rule...
I fought heat from start of June on last year and even earlier this year. Indeed, some plants seem to like cool and others thrive on being baked. One of my better patch tools this year is the resin lawn chair, for shading pollenations and main growing tips! Put a concrete block on the seat and it'll ride out 80 mph wind gusts.

Genetics definitely play a factor. I have a Companion 1311 (1502 Wallace '06 X 1010 Daletas '07) and a Dill 906 (998 Pukos '05 X 500 Northrup '04) The Dill 906 plant does much better in the heat does not wilt near as much as the Companion 1311. The other thing that seems to help is getting the plant established so the ground is shaded by the leaves. Watering through drip during the heat seems to help my plant as well.

I am growing a 1081 Leonzi this year and it really hasn't bothered it. Today was 30.1 lbs increase, but it has cooled down to the low 90's.
