as one of my plants main settled down to the ground it developed a kink in it about 1 foot away from the root. plant still seems to be doing OK, foliage looks fine, will this cause a problem later on or should I just let it continue?

If you have a old 100 lb shop vice ( I bought mine at Sears) , have someone help you lift it (remember, lift with your legs not your back) and take the vice out to your plant, then put your main inbetween it,,, tighted the vice up half a turn each week for the next thirty to sixty days or untill she straightens out for you. Also, remember to cover the vice with some type of plastic so it doesnt rust, You will find after just one rain that it will tend to rust very quickly,,, you dont want them rust markings on your vine cause you will never get them off.
Lots of guys sit concreate blocks or bricks on top of the bend (kink),, I find this way to risky of smashing the vine.

Brooks come on get with the program. I send my main vines with a kink to the chiropractor. No use in using the vice..thats a lot more work than its worth

I personally use my tractor tires to straighten out the kinks.

I don't think the kink will be an issue and would just put a little daconil on any wounds around it.

LOL!!,, all 3 of you guys topped me on that one,,,great come backs,,,HAHAHA!,,,
On a serious note now,,,, I wouldnt worry about the kink that much Mo, some vines end up with a slight kink in them from when the vine was falling to the ground when the plant was younger, usually they straighten back up some as the vine gets thicker.

since i'm into tractor pulls i just hook a chain from the tractor to the vine. put the tractor in low and 1st geer rev it up and pop the clutch when the front wheels r off the ground and i'm lookin at the sky i know its straight. or if i'm between paydays i'll use the fence strecher. its not as much fun as feeling the front tires come off the ground. seriously if it looks ok it probably is ok.
