I've not wanted to try it since it inhibits root development in the weed seedlings. We're trying to establish new roots in the pumpkin plants by burying vines. I think it is best used around well established plants and not ones we're trying to grow bigger, and more roots.

I used it this year with good luck I have a 15 day old fruit that weights 83 lbs.
The Preen keeps the seeds from germinating, I applied it real early, and used mycro and have found roots everywhere.

As long as the plant is past the fifth leaf stage you are safe, Using preen or leaving weeds get over grown...I bet you get about the same results

One problem with Preen is that some weeds are immune to it. I used it on some tomatoes and beans a few years ago, and it worked well on the foxtail. But a broadleaf called hairy galinsoga thought it was a fertilizer and now has become my #1 weed problem.

I put it down very early this season well before I started my seeds. I have not had any problems with it.
