I dont know about some of you guys, but this year is the earliest I have ever pollinated,, today I pollinated 2 plants and tomorrow I have 3 to pollinate. What gets me also is that I started my plants about a week later then I usually do.
I have a 1413 Werner plant that I started around May 9th and I have a pumpkin already to be pollinated at over 11 ft out. I started that 1413 plant almost 2 weeks behind my other plants.,,,,, so what do you think gives with this year?,,, why are alot of growers getting alot earler pollinations,,,, whats diffrent then years past?,, kinda weird really,, cause I have had alot better weather then this year before when starting plants.

Side note,,,,
I can finally get caught up on my work today , burring vines,, the last 4 days has been nothing but a soggy mess, today's the day to get caught up,,I even conded my boy into helping me bury vines as a fathers day present!,,, try it guys,, might work for ya,,LOL!

Maybe the plants are taking cues from Mom Nature's PMS lately and getting their act together???

Congrats on getting some help on burying. That's almost as good as getting weeding help. :) Happy Dad's Day, Brooks; and all you other dads out there.

I will be lucky to have sets by July for most of my fall plants.

milford, CT,

Brooks..this year is one for the books..temps 7 degrees below average..rain 2 times over the monthly average..sunlight...what is that? Yet some plants have taken on the challenge and outperformed the weather. Even I have to say that I have underestimated the power of the Atlantic Giant. The next challenge will be to keep plants healthy and avoid aborts..we might get caught by this one..with so much moisture in the soil bad things can happen fast..hope everyone is watching for any signs of disease..good luck to all!!!

Same here B, my 664 Liggett was started a couple of days later than I normally do & I'll have a female ( that I'm not keeping) due to bloom Thursday the 26th. I never have anything till the 3rd of July normally.

Hey Brooks, I know what you mean...I am at least 2 weeks early with the 919 Richards.

Our weather has been fantastic and that is the reason why I am ahead of other years...also built a much larger hoophouse and that helped alot.

Other Pacific Northwest growers I've spoken with have also commented that they are off to the quickest start ever.

Similar situation here Brooks. Gonna go ahead and pollinate two at 20 ft. in three days. It's the earliest I've ever pollinated and, if I wait any longer, I'm gonna have to take down the fence. I just hope I don't regret it in the fall.

Maybe mother nature is seeing fall arriving a little sooner this year, who knows?

Dear Mr. Bosworth. I see many things.

i think after last year's cold wet spring, many growers have protected the plants better with hoophouses, space heaters, light bulbs or ground cables early on in the spring. this early development of root systems leads to faster growing plants and earlier pollinations. that would be my guess boz.

My pumpkins won't pollinate until July. WE had a very cool may and early June, so the plants are behind schedule. The last time I had an early pollination we had 20 days over 90 in September and the pumpkins cooked and rotted before weighoff.

Dear Mother Nature,

Could you please stop screwing around and let the sun shine! While you are at it, how about backing off the rain? I have been a good boy all year long and all I want to do is grow a couple of pumpkins. You sure are helping my grass grow though! Unfortunately I don't enjoy growing grass as much as pumpkins. Please find it in your heart to take it easy on me and the rest of the pumpkin growers.
Notice how we are not spiteful people and go running around dumping oil and other nasty things on your giant garden? So cut the crap already!!

Sincereley,
BIG24NUT

No early pollination here. Ma nature is finally warming up the temps this week. I hope my plants eat the spinach ( seaweed) and play a Popeye routine for fast growth..
Best of luck all!

well Mom, c'mon over and the chocolate chip bag is open. If that doesn't slow you down, it's not PMS. That and the big bag of frenchfries I dumped the saltshaker on and they're soaking the paper bag.... :D

Dear Mr. BIGNUT (only one?),
What's a little rain between friends? And seriously Nutsy, have you really been THAT GOOD? Word has it that you received a lump of humic acid in your stocking last year. C'mon now, let's turn that frown upsidedown and maybe you won't be livin' where the sun don't shine for much longer.

Hugs and Kisses,
Mo Nature

p.s. Seriously, you don't want me to cut the crap. You need that crap for your grass growing. Besides, it would probably make you crankier than you already are

If I have to explain that one Ma, then you're not really XX chromosone-d but XY chromosone-d and in drag...

Still. Weather has been scrambled the last few years... or more...

Rain water has nitrogen. Take it to the bank.
