Set steel fenceposts with 2x4"calf fence on it and tarp wired to it with extra grommets set. This gives me a roughly 4' tall fence. I put the fence posts (lay them end to end, then stand each one up in place and whack them in right there) about 6' apart. Tarp is lasting at least two seasons... taken down in fall and put up in spring.
Some use silt fence.

I got up some snowmobile fencing material.
It does not stop the wind, just slows it down enough.

BTW, I use silt fence stuff. 100 foot roll w/ posts every 10'...costs approx $20 at big box stores. Glad that I used it this year as a heavy down pour caused gully washes in my pkn patch, and the silt fence caught the dirt & water, and redirected the water, before it could wash away my plants!!!! Peace, Wayne

There are the infamous Wall Of Nesbitt pictures, of Railroad ties and a 17' fence...

My fencing? http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=104178 has a shot of this year as a temp barrier. If you look in my 2008 in the April area, you'll find where I built a temp windbreak for the one vine enclosure.
