I am growing 2 plants back to back in my patch...one thing i have noticed this year is that the secondary vines on the east side of the main vine are growing very much faster then the secondary vines on the west side.
The plants run north and south.....

Why is this?

The east side starts getting sun about 9am and the patch gets much sun til maybe 8 at night....

a lot of times our plants will have faster growth on one side vs the other. not so on every plant. when it does happen its usually on the side that sees earliest sun. this could be a reason

Hmmm. . . half of mine are planted N-S and the other half are S-N. All of the vines on the West side are longer. Oh, and the wind comes almost always from the West.

Erin, how are you doing with the wind this last week or so? It's been nasty over here.
