No risk of causing disease (that we know of). As a barrier, molasses should inhibit Powdery Mildew. In some cocktails (like compost tea) molasses stimulates the growth of beneficial organisms that might be antagonistic to pathogenic fungi. At the very least molasses is a decent surfactant & should eventually contribute some potassium to the nutrient cycle.
