This might not apply where you live but I've seen blackstrap molasses at the bulk food store-(pour your own) and also sticks to train vines can be had at the dollar store as "skewers" you get 100 for a buck.

I like the skewers idea. Better than pulling bamboo slivers out of my fingers all the time. Do the skewers last through the season and can they hold in heavy winds?

Sounds like Mark and I get our supplies from the same places.

Also, black strap molasses and alfalfa meal/pellets at the racetrack where we keep our racehorse....great deals there!!

Another place to look for molasses is at a farm store that sells animal feed.

Pumpkin and Avada I have been useing skewers for a year now. They are made out of BAMBOO, check out my diary this year and you will see what I'm talking about. Just be carefull, they are SHARP as hell. And it's real easy to stick a vine or yourself. But there cheap and can be found at ANY supermarket.

Thanks for the skewer idea.

As for the large binder clips, I find them to be a little spendy at office stores. But I came across some in a dollar store over the past winter. I bought all they had.

I like to use a compressed air can to get moisture/water out of sensitive areas on the plant. Especially if you get any water down in the blossom of a female.

Plastic coat hangers from the dollar store. Cut the "U" shape off of each side. Makes excellent stakes for the
vines. Last forever. No splinters....LB

Yard sales are great to find fish tank air pumps for making tea. If you get the small plastic garbage cans at the dollar store heat up a pin and poke little pin holes in them then burry them around your pumpkin they make good slow release watering systems aswell the dumb slugs that fall in and drown makes it an aadded bonus.
