One of my plants that is 4 weeks old has 5 leaves on it, all but the first are huge. The vine looks very thick at this stage, all I need is for it to shoot out.

My other I had to restart, and it is just staring to grow a first true leaf.

Before that is was a sibling of the current one, that was only inches from making touchdown, two weeks ago. Then wind spun it in a full 360, ruining it.

One of mine is about 1 foot and the other about 1 1/2 foot long, its leaning. The weather has been cold in Mn, we haven't had temps in the 50's as high for three straight days in 50 years, I think the cold is slowing them down, they look good though.

Behind here too. I didn't plant mine in the ground until May 16th or so. Not really expecting to see a whole lot, but everyone is doing just fine. My 938 has huge leaves and running really low to the ground and looking for some warm soil to run a main vine on.

I haven't been up to the patch since Saturday, I suspect with the rain and finally some warm temperatures today, to see some good growth up there tonight. The 1459 and 1050 Sundstrom are doing well. The 1050 was a late start, backup plant that was a last minute decision to plant, so it was one of the smaller plants on planting day. Doing very well, and looking to move when warm weather gets here. The 1405 Bobier is doing well, very thick stem on it too. My 938 was a replacement to the 1149 Pukos plant that didn't make it planting day and well ahead of the 1050 Sundstrom.

Looking for cucumber beetles. I suspect to see them later this year with our cooler temperatures and colder nights. Looks like next week will be upper 70's and sunny which will be a nice change and good growing weather!

I have two showing males and haven't been out today to see if there's a female in my 'butter zone' or not. Hope one is there, then that will put me on track for early set. Mains range from 14' plus to barely down; second batch is still working on 'down and that way'.

all our plants are a week to ten days ahead of last season. its attributed to a couple facts.
1. putting out a larger plant and using inground heating cables
2. on real cold nights early on before the greenhouses were removed ? we also used a small heating lamp for extra measure and insurance

its a great start but thats all it is. there are plants out there that may not seem to be as big as the grower would like but you will be surprised how fast they can catch up with the right temps (day and night)

Main vine! What's that? I have been snake bit this year bad. I started with six plants. I still have six, but I also lost six! Two lost due to my stupidity. Do the math and see how many plants I have gone through and then guess how long my main vine is! If I even set a pumpkin this year I will be lucky! Good thing I took a golf lesson this morning and managed to start getting one thing going right!

UGHHHHHHHHH!!!!

My 1156 Hunt is doing great for the cold weather we've had. It is now at 6 ft but get this, so are the first two secondaries! The 1097.5 Beachy is also right there but the secondaries are more in line with normal. Our own 559 is doing about the same as the Beachy. Temps from 67 in the day to 48 at night. Wind is almost constant. It will all work out in the end!

I agree croley....thanks pap.
I haven't measured them, but I'd estimate my two best plants have a mainvine of around 2.5' to 3' long.
If the weather warms up soon, my plants will hopefully pick up steam. They were doing decent, but this cold spell really seemed to slow them down.

1250 Kline is at about 2 1/2 feet and doing ok. the only problem I had was in the process of laying down, one of the leaves ended up directly under the vine and kinked when I tried to position it better. The leaf still looks really healthy so I'll leave it for now until I get some more leaves going.

Plants are slow due to cool weather, but otherwise healthy. We aren't getting drowned out like last year. No bug problems so far, but the weeds are terrible. A lot of weeds went to seed last year after 3/4 of the patch flooded out.

It's been an aweful cold spring here in central Ontario. Growth has slowed these past two days because we took the huts off (plants got too big). Hopefully warmer weather will arrive soon. Last night's low was @ 42 F. Our plants are:

1269 Hunt @ 7'+

Main vines are between 5' and 9' the 1288 Wallace, 895 Privitera and the 838 Bobier are winning the race so far, I am about 3 weeks ahead of where I was last year due to better seeds, better soil and slow and steady care of the plants, 2nd year is looking GOOD! in Kansas!!!

Female in place on 1026 Young where I want one (about 13'), moved some vine, installed the resin deck chair, and ready when she is. Had pep talk with 1100 Hester about having a flock of boys in synch with that one and open on schedule... With six weighoffs and fairs over 44 days in this area in Sept and Oct, feeling good about getting something to scale somewhere. Other six vines are still working on getting the grow on...

Kansas City State Fair 9/3 and possibly Assaria 10/3 (or Old Colorado City, gotta make up mind)

Anyway, early two vines are over 8' (1100 Hester) and 14' (1026 Young), two more earlies are about 3' and STOCKY and healthy and finally going THAT way (893 Privitera and 783 Huff), one is pokey (475.5 Bourne, told mama [1689 Jutras] was also that way). 1357 Ghaye is also in the 2-3' and laying over and taking names, 1248 Ford, 961.5 Urena are in the back but laying down. Last three are 3 weeks younger but meant to go into mid Oct and all look very good. None had issues with first SVB spraying either.

Just took off my first basketball sized cull, split at the blossom. It was too close (8') to the "stump" (or whatever we are calling it these days) anyway. Have three pants with pollinations for the State Fairs, all around the 12' mark. The rest are in varying stages due to different start times. Definitely a personal best start, hopefully several PB's at the end of the season!.
