This is freaking me out. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=107297 I have a wooden stake into the ground supporting my watering risers. I've done the same thing for the past 5 years. Last night, I noticed some cream colored ooze coming from the soil around one of them. Looks like puffy pudding. I scraped out the soil and cleaned off the stake, but this morning it is back. I'll be replacing my stakes today with something else. It is some kind of chemical reaction, but with what? Anyone have any ideas?

Since it appears to lack fungal structure I'm thinking it's probably a slime mold. Are you sure there is nothing buried there?

You learn something every day. I Googled "Slime Mold" and am pretty certain that's what I have. Yes, it does look nasty, although my kids were fairly interested in it. Thanks for the help. Alan

I had something very similar last year, I think it was from to much water or fertilizer. I slowed down on the ferts and water and it went away.

Maybe spray the area with a good fungicide and see if that will take care of it?? ,,, Weird though, first time I have ever seen something like that.

The only fertilizer it has seen this year is seaweed extract. The soil in the hoophouse is very warm and a few inches below the surface (where it is dry), it is quite moist. It's not there this morning. Maybe I shouldn't have seen Monsters Vs. Aliens this weekend...

Woo hoo, the price of oil is heading back up. Maybe I'll be able to afford a new sheet of plastic for my hoophouse LOL!

Could there be a sick dog that lives near by?
