Somethng I've wondered about in an earier posting regarding main vine burying. It is clear that there are a number of methods used, however I wondered of those of you who do not bury the main vine, do you still incorporate mycorrhizal fungi at the leaf nodes where the tap roots come from?

Yepper...Last year we chose to only inoculate half the secondaries on two plants, 3/4 of our best plant & none on two others.

You guessed it; the more inoculant & the more buried secondaries the bigger the fruit. It was very clear where we got lazy & where we didn't.

We never bury the main. Only secondaries. Squash vine borers are easy to control when you distribute pesticides for a living.

Thanks Guys. Ya Ed, I wondered if the non-main-vine burying group would dig a drench or inoculate the soil in front of the main. I guess that is what is done.

What's the biggest factor you think? inoculant or the burying?

they go hand in hand. if you use a mico product and dont bury the vine it takes that tap root quite a bit longet to reach the product.
we place some in each new trench every day before burying.
we also add a tad of kelp meal and tad of granular turkey poop in to make a MICO-MIX .

a real treasure bath ---- lol ------ but it works

dont some or all plants send nodes out of the top and bottom of the vine so would it make sence to bury the vine a little deeper and use mycor above the vine aswell?

Ditto Pap

WHY NOT bury the main? Some growers like to see it. I do.
Others have Fusarium problems where burying is begging for trouble.
