I have never tried cloning before. I have heard of it. I have a plant that might not make it. And I have a plant now that is 10feet out and thriving and wanted to take a few clones from it to replace some losses. I put a 6 inch pot of soil under a vine at the leaf node and covered it with more soil. How long does it take to root and when is it safe to cut it from the vine? Whats your experience with cloning?
Thanks, Happy Gardening Cricket

I've never cloned before. but if your not tring to keep the plant over the winter I would 86 the pot of soil. I don't know if your burying your vines or not. but i would leave the vine on top of the soil and wait till those white knots start to appear *roots* then cut it from the plant then transplant it. Any one else? would like to hear other opinions terry

agree with comments from snoopy. no need to do a clone this time of year. if at all ? you would start a clone in late september for removal and tending indoors through out the winter. i would also not suggest cloning a plant that was a problem. you might be doing all that work for nothing. usually cloning is done to preserve a rare or hard to get cross. not done for just an average run of the mill cross.

What she is attempting to do is take a cutting from one of her good plants and start another plant so she has two. The cutting will root very fast normally with in a week. We often cut an entire side vine for a Genetics pumpkin. Shade and moisture..

Thank you, yes the cloning is from a good plant to replace a bad plant Cause I am out of seeds and rooting is faster than starting from seed anyway. So--in one week I will cut the vine and transplant--Thank You , Thank you
