The other day I was at our local Lowes getting some micro sprinklers for my patch. I needed a tap to thread them into the PVC and asked for help. The clerk asked me what I was using them for. I told him they were for my pumpkin patch. He goes ohhh, are you trying for a big one with a smile on his face. I told him yes, that I grew a 696 last year and wanted to break my record. He then proceded to tell me that he grew one last year that weighed 1850 lbs. I had to ask him to repeat that to me to make sure i was hearing this right. I said wow that is a world record weight. That he beat Jutras 1689. He said the world record is over 2100 lbs and that he wanted to break it. I asked him if he had it weighed anywhere and told me that he took 1st place at the Winsor fair and then at Fryburg Fair with it. He told me the seeds were from someone he knew and thats all he would tell me. I tried not to call him a liar, but it was too funny to hear this knowing what I know about this hobby. I asked his name so I could see if he even entered a pumpkin anywhere, and of course his name didn't show up anywhere. I know everyone in this hobby or atleast know of them up here in Maine. I wonder how many other people he has told this same story.
Just wanted to share this with everyone. Thought it was a funny story. Has anyone else had a similar experiance?
I should have gotten some of his secects on how to grow a big one. That could have really been funny. Next time i go back I will have to ask him.

It was a bad joke, but to get back to the point. I don't understand what he gains by that. I lived for a short time with a fella in Gunbarrel Co who bloviated all the time. When he got to the story of being on Al Unser Jr's pit crew I had to move out.
