I must admit, that I was using our meat thermometer, with remote senor, to test the temperature of the water in my 45 gallon holding tank.
While this may seem "normal" to us pumpkin growers, I must tell you that even my wife said "I don't even have to ask what you are doing" What a great sport.....
Next I had to test the temperature of the water coming straight out of the tap from the Capilano resovoir to compare the differance.....need I carry on?
(for those of you that care....water from the tap is at a cool mountain temperature of 52 degrees while the stored water is more like about 67 degrees right now)

Trutest & Taylor dial thermometers are the best. I would avoid the "economy" versions. There are remote (sending unit) models too.

My hubby runs car parts through the dishwasher. We are used to each other 'appropriating' things....
Here we have 'The Thrift Store'. It is our county's 'sheltered workshop' and a lot donate what didn't go at the rummage sale, or what got cleaned out of elderly Aunt Mabel's after she went to the Home. I go there to buy gently pre-used for stuff like that, usually can find what I want when I need it. I buy all their dubious blankets in like June for fall pumpkin covers too.... (they will happily sell me the unsellables for $20 a large garbage bag)
Best to ask first. Saves grief....
