Hi all,

I started my grower diary today and put some pictures up of a problem I've been having in my patch. If you could just look at the last 2 pics and try to figure out what it is it would be great.

Thanks!
Martin

Leaves look something like mine man, i cant believe PM has hit my plants already.

I sprayed with some Fungicide tonight also, hopefully it isnt PM but i have a feeling mine is.

It may be due to me not having enough ventilation through the hoops, due to some very windy weather the last 2 weeks here and including the next few days.

I've had problems with Fusarium in the past. Early on, some of the leaves would have a mottled look, just like yours. Later on, vine, stem and/or fruit rot would develop. Also, the base of many of the leaves' stems rot and the leaves collapse. Hopefully, your problem is much less severe, such as cool temps and poor nutrient uptake.

OK to me it looks like something was sprayed inside the hoop and you have a chemical burn or UV. The new growth does not appear to be affected.

martin,
they do not look too bad in my eyes for early plants. in the past i have had yellowing leaves, mottled leaves, pale light green leaves with darker veins all which looked bad and had me looking at all the disease chart pictures and thinking the worst. in each case on early plants it was just nitrogen and nutrient deficiency from cool soil and cooler temps. even plants in hoop houses and with space heaters have had this look early on. the root system is at a stage early on that is growing like mad, but still has a hard time keeping up with the plants growth and the first 5 true leaves show it sometimes. give the plants some time and the 6th and 7th true leaf should be a better indicator of the plants health. normally when the roots catch up and the plant starts running and the soil heats up a bit more, the plant looks fine. in the meantime you are doing the right thing by putting the ortho disease control on the plants. i would use a finer spray and a little less amount sprayed to avoid too much pooling of the solution on the leaves causing the white spots. too much pooling of any solution that stains a leaf can lead to burns in those spots, especially fish products.

Yeh, i made a big mistake by spraying in my hoops last night while they were open.

I got up this morning and most of the leaves looks shiny white and dull white PM looking stuff all over them.

I will wait and see what the new growth looks like but if it is PM, then the whole plant will be garbage.

No rain in weeks and starting today, it is suppose to start raning eveyday for the next 3-4 days.....should be an interesting and nervous week.

If i destroyed my plants already, I wont be putting anymore in, I will take the year off.

There is no Powdery Mildew in New York yet.

Never spray plants under plastic.

Email pictures please. No time to release all the diary images let alone find the ones with issues.

Martin, wet your finger and see if you can rub one of the white spots off, if you can , then spray the leaves off with water. Looks like it might wash off from what I see.

What do you mean there is no PM in New York yet?

I did wet my finger and it did wipe some of the white off. But my plants were not under the hoops when i sprayed, i had the sides down.

I also had some insects on a plant in my back yard landscaping so i sprayed the plant with the sevin.....does sevin always leave a white PM looking substance on them?

When is the best time to spray off my leaves to try to remove some of this Spray i sprayed?
