My 1230 daletas plant is growing straight up and has a very thick vine and is about a foot and a half tall. How do I get the vine to flip over? My 1689 jutras is vineing now but now the main vine tip is growing straight up. What can I do so the main does not snap?

Mound some loose soil up around it for support until it lays down.

cross two bamboo stakes under it to support it too

Landing ramp like Evil Knievel used. Crossing Bamboo stakes help too. Perform adjustments during the heat of the day. Beware sudden chills which can "stimulate" the vine with often tragic snapping results.

watch it closley so that, despite the stakes and ramp, the vine does not loop back over ontop of itself, like a roller-coaster loop. Had my 1502 Wallace do this last and it snaped the main, all in a 24 hour period. I was told too much nitorgen was the most likely cause. Maybe tie a piece of string to the vine with very slight pulling pressure in the running direction of the vine, such that it could not flip back over itself. Could be risky though.

before mounding any dirt around the stump, carefully dig the soil out from under any of the support leaves, usually the second and third true leaves. they are there to support the main vine as it lays down but can also keep the main growing up instead of out and then down. once you remove a good inch of soil under those leaves, be ready to support the leaning over main with bamboo or a dirt ramp like some suggested. this should help the plant lay down some more. i have also found removing a little soil on the side of the stump that the main vine is growing on will also help the plant lean over a little more. careful is the key word. more bamboo then less if needed. sometimes a main is growing over a newly froming leaf. keep a close eye on helping the main stay under these leaves so they do not ride them skyward also.

you may need to lay off the ferts. especially the nitrogen. is the plant dark green? thats a clue to the excessive nitrogen.
if the main is only six inches to a ft? its normal for the main to boner up (sorry lol )
we brace the main early on and also place a bamboo stake a couple inches under the main - allowing it to drop slowly each day.
also a stake on each side in a criss cross pattern to guide the main in the proper direction.
always adjust the mains when it warm. never during cool early morning weather. snap - snap - snap
