I know its way to early to tell which plant will give you your best pumpkin, but alot of my best growers out of the gate has ended up growing my biggest pumpkins more often then not(besides a 1068 Wallace seed that I grew in the past that has always came out of the gate at a snails pace), B
But what plant is growing like heck for you right now?,,, any surprise plants kicking butt for you ?,, is it the plant you expected that would shine?

Right now I have 2 1413 Werner's growing like hell, the 1413 I planted about a week and a half behind my other plants has passed them all.
But I do have a heck of a plant growing right now that could just pass all my plants here in another week, and that's the 1209 Kuhn, that plant has had no heat in the hoops all spring long, except for one night I put in hand warmer packets next to the plant because of frost coming the next day, ((Thanks Dan Bowles for calling me and warning me about the frost coming!!)) . My 1161 Billy Rodonis seed is right there in the running also.

All 3 of my 985 plants are real slow starters, but if they grow anything like how the 1068 Wallace seed has grown for me in the past, then that's a great sign! Starts up real slow and grows like hell at the finish line for a huge pumpkin!

I'm excited about this year! so far so good! (knock on wood they keep growing ok!,,lol)

Only disappointment so far this year is I dont have a Pukos seed growing in my patch for the first time in 5 years, my 998 or my 805 didn't germinate.

My prospect and disappointment happen to be the same plant. My 1309 hebb was doing rather well. That is until yesterday when I was putting it in the patch. You see, my patch is quite a distance from the house. Rather than carry all my plants out, I put them in the back of the atv buggy. Now I did not want to drive old grizz right through the patch , so I opted to carry them in one by one. That's when it happen!!! Classic case of leaving crap on the ground!!! I tripped over my shovel. Like a scene from a movie the slow motion flying plant and the slowed down NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! One 1309 hebb upside down in the middle of the patch!!! My new prospect is the 1311 companion!

I am batting a thousand this year!

1026 Young, is taking over the world... it started and had three buddies (1100 Hester, 783 Huff, 893 Privitera) that it battled out biggest plant for first few weeks; then it decided at a very short/young age to just lie down and run, THEN start making tendrils. It is like four other plants combined.

I have another cluster that are 2-3 weeks younger and I have a few possible aggressive ones, but. The 1026 is a stunner... had a patch visit yesterday by another local grower and he had a jaw hanging on the wondervine. If I am going to take the record, right now this one looks like the one... Pat, better be looking over your shoulder, the big green mound in the west is the vine that's gonna do it!

My 1081 is at 7.5 feet already, and it's headed toward the Panhandle of Oklahoma. When Debbie looks to the East, that big orange thing will be the new SR.

Brooks, I'd have to agree no Pukos seeds in my patch as it turns out this year either, and not for a lack of effort either. 3 1149's I had problems with, two germination problems and one grower planting day mishap, it didn't survive 24 hours in the patch, but I have one of my own 938.5's out there and its the best I could do to get a Pukos/Wallace cross this late, and it's a good plant, agressive and very large leaves, it's putting out 4th and 5th leaves already and one of only two that are not leggy. The 1405 and the 1459 is very leggy but much bigger. They've been in the dirt for about a week, and no movement that I can tell, so, must be getting ready to run soon. I have them covered tonight as the lows will be in the upper 40's. Brrr. Rain coming this week, a good thing, we need it.

I have about a 60" MV on my 1689 Jutras, but right on it's heels is the 1272 Brunst (16xx cross) and 1161 Rodonis. I normally do a MV measurement on June 1st to compare against my other years.

Shameless plug but my 1066 Chenier is by far my best plant with the 1170 Vincent/McGill just a short step behind.

Our best plant is our own 1156 Hunt, followed closely by the 1269 Hunt. Both are in great shape @ 2'+. Our 901 Hunt isn't very far behind either. All are within a couple inches of each other. This is our best start ever, so we hope this trend continues throughout the season. Good luck all.
