I planted 5 giant pumpkin seeds on 5/4..germination tub with a 17w heat mat and air temp of 80-82F..used seed starter and water...4 out 5 seeds did not germinate and had fungus growing inside them once I pulled them out and pryed them open. One seed had insides that were like mush. The fifth seed germinated but with only one leaf and its first primary is already looking bad as it grows...drooping/wilting appearance. I water daily and have cucumbers in the same tub with the same soil that are growing great. Am I dealing with bad seeds? Any thoughts? This is my first go at giant pumpkin, and didn't think the seed sprouting part would be difficult.

when first planting the seed, the soil should be wet but not soaked. after that the seedling is only in the pot for 8 to 10 days so watering would be minimal, unless you are using peat pots which will suck the water out of the soil every day or so. I would definately not water every day, especially if the seed has not even sprouted. hope this helps.....

Yep,sounds like too much water. I soak the seeds, then plant them in damp soil. I do not water till the soil gets near dry. They do not need water till they send out the "tap" root. It rained for a long time here,so I put the plants under a roof. Try again. You still have time.

Sounds like a simple novice mistake on my part..I am definitely going to keep trying. Thanks for all of the good input.
