I have an interesting situation I wanted advice on. I terminated my main vine about 10 inches from the stump due to a double vine, I'm using a secondary main from the stump to be my new main. Question is this, where I cut off the old main, it is sticking up straight in the air due to the way it grew and being pretty thick. I micro sprinkler everyday and I was concerned that water would go inside the vine and cause problems with rot in the future. The vine is hallow inside and goes down to the stump.
I put sulfer past on the cut and I to seal off the vine, I used a small plastic water bottle top and just put it on like a lid, it fit perfect lol. Now the vine is sealed. Sooo, did I do the right thing or should I leave it open to the air even if water goes inside?

I think you did the right thing, long as its not an air tight seal around the neck of the bottle, water will be repelled and the inside of the vine will not collect water like a cup, which would eventually be a problem. Good Luck.

Take a razor blade and trim so that no water gets trapped... I would think a cap will harbor bugs and or promote fungus/rot.

trim what? :) Trim a hole in the bottom of the vine so water can drip and air out?

I think you are OK. These things seem to take care of themselves. In the past I have cut off the vine where it forked when I had a double vine and let the other fork grow. The end seemed to scab over in effect and it was fine.

If you have a hole that is open to air and water in your main vine stump - you have a problem. If water gets inside the stump - in any measurable amount - the stump will rot. You need to keep water out of the inside of the stump - period. There are lots of creative ways - Like the one you are using - but i would be very diligent. Otherwise - you can count on it starting to foam and die within a month or two. If it occurs at a leaf - the vine will be sealed by the vine wall - and the razor blade trimming will work to allow water to drain out the low point. If it was the main you cut - that hole goes all the way down into your root - where water will sit and stagnate.
