I'm probably going to use sevin this year for pest control. A lot of pestacides kill soil microbes and fungi, but the carbaryl in Sevin is easily metabolized by microbes etc. so it causes no real damage to them. The only thing I'm worried about is that Sevin is basically instant worm-bane. There is nothing better at killing your soil's earthworm population than Sevin, and earthworms are the source of a lot of your microbes in the first place. Considering that I am only applying it on the tops and bottoms of leaves, how much of a risk do you guys think this is?

Hopefully Tremor will chime in here with his analysis and suggested product for whatever pest you will be facing.
I personally would never use Sevin but having said that, the only pests we battle in my parts are aphids and ants and there are alot of other products that take care of that problem.

Yeah, I remember that thread. I started this one though because it really didn't teach me anything except that Orangeneck lives a half-hour away from me.

One thing you need to know is if you have cats in your patch that catch rodents, is that sevin will kill them also! When they walk thru the patch they get it on their feet and rub against the places and get it on the coats. When they clean themselves it goes into the stomach and it is a very slow painful death for a cat.

I would use Eight I think it's a whole lot better not as toxic to good things and will take care of cuke bettles and squash bugs and a whole host of others you can spray it on all garden plants and harvest in 3-4 days. And it won't burn your plants.

I don't really like Sevin. Like Shannon I have burn concern. Likewise the worm destruction though worms recover within a couple weeks. Sevin also kills other beneficials so watch for mite outbreaks if you use it. Sevin slaughters bees too (what doesn't though?) so...
What pests are you targeting?

I used Sevin for years for borer control on my vines. I never noticed any inadvertant leaf damage. The Sevin I used did not have a "sticker".

By beneficials do you mean beneficial insects? Because I know for a fact microbes can handle it.
