. It has six legs, not antenna, two large wings and two very small wings. It's got a tan body with black specs on it and a brown head, with a small dot of tan before the mouth starts. Legs are covered in fuzz. It can fly. Its about 5/8 inch to 3/4 inch long, about the same as a dime.
Have never seen these in my garden before.

Just copy and paste link into a new browser window to get the pictures to come up, then click on them for larger sizes. (Please ignore the leaf problem pics, they were from last year but I can't seem to delet them out!)

I always get them under the edges of my hoop house plastic that touches the dirt, they dont get inside but I think they are attracted to the lights inside the hoops at night. I always find them dead when ever I go out to open my hoops up in the morning, I spray merit under the plastic and that seems to work.

You need a contact pesticide to effectively kill them. Merit works only after they have eaten the plant. Sort of defeats the purpose then

My bet would be they emerged from pupae in your soil.....they were the grubs you had last year. I also figure sevin would kill them as adults just like it does other adult beetles.....

Linus, your exactly right on the merit, never thought of that. But something is killing them and my guess was the merit, I pull the plastic up off the soil and they are dead as a door nail. maybe they are eating something in the dirt?

Merit is painfully slow killing adult beetles. Pretty slow on the grubs too which is why the label requires it to be applied well in advance of the summer egg laying period.
Clothianidin (a competing neonicotinoid) is wicked fast on all life stages.
