Just wondered if someone could give me some tips on growing. I am entering a pumpkin growoff this weekend and the thing is we get 2 seeds (Speical Dill's Atlantic Giant). We have from now until the beginning to October to grow, then they are weighed, pending they survived! Is there any short cuts or secrets anyone would like to expell on me??...Needless to say gardening has never been my forte, but I stummbled on this site and knew there would be some experts to assist!!

Thanks in advance..

There are some books out there but alot of the information I got was from reading back through some of the older posts. Soil test, good seeds, prune and bury the vines and limit each plant to one big fruit towards the middle of the season. That is the short list that I can think of but I know there are many other more experienced growers on here that can give you more tips.

Look at the upper right corner of the Home page of this site. The DT2 manual is a great reference guide for Giant Pumpkin Growing.
Or if you have specific questions try them on this General Discussion page

1st find out where they got the seeds..2nd find out if you have to plant that seed in order to enter.

If they are store bought from Lowes...get new seeds from one of us. Even in the poorest of soils you will be sure to beat them with a proven seed.

I have no idea where they got the seeds but will find out tonight! I do not have much space for growing but is it better to start the seeds out of the ground, or just put them in and go....I really want to win, and appreciate all your help. Full sun??

kts...full sun, YES!!! Direct planting is (almost) out of the question...they need to be started in a controlled set up!! Fairly simple tho!! Do a lil research on this site (or maybe a lot), use search function on main page!!! Lots of incredible info at the end of yer mouse!!! Hope this helps!!! Peace, Wayne
