Is there a website, that records the days, and amounts, that it rains in a given,,,zip code? I would like to do a long term chart for my area.
Has anyone used those water absorbing crystals?

weather.com just put in your zip code,And go to month,Then you can choose from which ever month you want and it will say the presipitation for any day of the month you chose,And it will say the temperatrue too.Good luck!

You can also go to www.weatherunderground.com and then put in your zip. On the left side about 1/3 of the way down you will see history for this site. You can go on there and get a total history for the last 2 years. I use that to get a comma delineated file that I can put into Excel and manipulate the data to get the information I want. I used this to estimate Degree Days for Tomatoes to figure out when to plat my seeds for the various competitions.

I have used crystals, under the planting hole. I think it helps even out the water available to a young plant. It does NOT replace proper watering but it helps buffer extremes during very hot weather for the smaller plant still establishing. If you go crystals, buy 'medium', hydrate (they will swell to playing marbles plus size) and put half a 5 gallon pail under the planting hole area about a foot (dig deep enough to be able to put them a foot under the dirt surface) then add some soil or mix; then plant the plant.
