I have been gardening for over 40 years and always have assumed that vitamin B-1 helped reduce transplant shock and helped stimulate new root growth because that was what I always was told. Before transplanting my tomatoes this year, I decided to do a little research on B-1. Turns out that B-1 does not reduce transplant shock like I thought it did. Washington State University has done some research on this. Here is the link http://www.puyallup.wsu.edu/~Linda%20Chalker-Scott/Horticultural%20Myths_files/Myths/Vitamin%20B1.pdf
This same site also has some interesting insights on aerated and nonaerated compost tea.
