I seen we had a 2009 seed''line up'' list, but how about a 2009 seed'' back up'' list?,,lol.
What are some of your back up plants you will be growing just in case your starters might not make it?,,, Chances are, due to bad luck on your starter seeds, you will have a few back up plants taking their place, so a good back up plant always comes in handy. I know I always have 1 or 2 back ups ending up being a starter.

I put them on the other list. Anything I don't use will be grown by a 'return grower' from the club; and they get a chance to grow my rear off :) If they do I'll be proud.

I will be starting the 1233 Silverback and the 174 Howler... I love those monkeys... Gotta get them off my back...
I would never start a Sandercock seed though, my seeds need to be steroid free and he flunked the random piss test the GPC now gives to all its growers.

my 1161 backup is a second 1161 planted side by side and healthiest plant wins if both germinate. it will be hard to do the deed, but i am steadfast on growing the 1161 and using it in my cross with the 1385. if both 1161s do not germinate, an 1147 shenoha 2008 (1041.5 mckie x self) will be a backup to the 1161 that does germinate. if both 1161s do not germinate, i have 3 more 1161s and i will try a 3rd one on 4-26 or 27.
the 1385 backup will be my healthiest 1147 shenoha 2008. just like last year with my 1041.5 mckie plant, the backup 1147 will be snipped no matter how slow or healthy the 1385 looks at an early age, as long as the 1385 is not dead. my 1041.5 last year was the slowest sickliest looking plant of them all that grew my new personal best of 1147. leave the super proven dogs in the ground no matter what the backup looks like at that stage. if my 1385 does not sprout on my 4-20 batch, then another will be started on 4-26 or 4-27. if that one doesn't sprout, then a late starting 5-2 germination of my final 1385 attempt will take place. i will try my damndest to make the 1161 x 1385 cross both ways this year with this program.
and the 1185.5 backup will be a second 1185.5 plant side by side with the healthiest 1185.5 getting the spot. if both do not germinate on the 4-20 batch, an 1147 shenoha will be a backup. i told steve i would guarantee him that i would try the 1185.5 when requesting a seed from him, and he was nice enough to obliege. a 22% heavy 1041.5 x a 898 crossed with the 1385 will be my last intended cross of an extreme % heavy seed x super power seed.
this may seem like a waste of a couple seeds or plants, and i have had to wrestle with that idea myself all winter long. but when a grower only has 3 plots, the above strategy is the best one i have come up with to ensure the best odds of making my intended crosses and growing the plants i truly want to grow instead of going with a backup that was not in my intended line up.
