Sixteen days ago I installed two remote soil temperature probes, one in a hoop house which was also installed that day and the other was put in an open area of the patch. The probes were only installed four inches deep because that was the frost level. The probe in the open area would always read 32 in the morning and would fluctuate to 35 on sunny days. The one in the hoop house moved from 32 to 36 in the morning and would fluctuate up to 44 on sunny days. Installed soil-heating cables today, no frost found under the hoop house but was easy to find in random spots in the patch. Temps should be hitting the fifties this week.

Glad I have had my soil cables going since the middle of March on my entire patch. Should be nice and warm, see you this fall Bill.

The snow should be melted off my patch in the next week or so, guess I'll wait a few weeks to check the soil temp. No big hurry here the penquins are just now heading north again.

Snow on my patch as well. I don't use heating cables, so am hoping for a natural warm-up. If I can get the soil tilled and the hoophouses out a week before planting out, I'll be happy. 50's will feel great!
