What one seed would you plant for size , don`t care about shape or color of pumpkin ?

What one seed would you plant for a Howard Dill Award pumpkin ?

Only one of each

For size my son and I will be growing a seed from my 841 McWilliams. Going back 2 generations there are 3 1068 Wallaces and a 998 Puk os. For color we will be growing a seed from my son's 547McWilliams. Very nice orange color as you can see in my diary from last year.

1483 Werner for size.

It has both the two largest pumpkins ever grown as grandfathers/pollinators (998 same exact plant that grew the 1689 and the 1068 same exact plant that grew the 1662 Young), as well as having 1370 Rose mixed in in there too and one more 1068 from the 1385 Jutras side. I would be shocked if that one is not a winner. The 1483 was also 11.8% heavy.

For the Dill award? 879 Zoellner. (1317.5 Rose x 1290 Poirier)

It got that big without a stump, to a 2nd year grower. While it was not the orangest pumpkin itself (due to its mother being crossed with the 998 Pukos), it had excellent shape, and was a sound fruit with no sag lines or internal cracks. Now keep in mind that there is a good chance color comes from the male side, and the male in this case was the 1290 Poirier, that grew the 949 Zoellner. Again, this one lost its stump (SVB damage looking at the pictures). The genetics of this cross look very promising for shape and color.

The 1317.5 Rose (1370 rose x 998 Pukos) is in my opinion the best looking pumpkin ever grown over 1300 pounds. It was very round and tall, deep ribbed, and dark speckled orange. Sound Flawless fruit. Now with Orange be re-injected to its line via the 1290 Poirier I think the 879 seed has a great shot of being big, round, and orange, with deep ribs. Not to mention BIG in its own right.

For size there is a lot of good choices. These are some of my personal favorites:

1068 Wallace
1689 Jutras
1566 Rodonis
500 Wallace
1041.5 Mckie
998.6 Pukos
1450 Wallace
985 Werner
1385.5 Jutras
1350.5 Starr
1231 Pukos

For the Howard Dill I would say the 810 Dill, 1016 Daletas, 755 Johnson (a biased favorite) or possibly the 535 Zaychkowsky (810 Dill x 1370 Rose).

For color you can't beat the 689 Sandercock. I'm sure Ned has some left and would be happy to send you one.
