Well after a few months of planning J. Jutras, R. Barker and P Hunt have put together a 1600# Challange Phil Hunt and his 1156 Hunt 1631 x 1689, Me with my 1184 Barker, and Joe Jutras with his 1262 have put together a challenge between each of us growers that involes a minimum of 3 other growers growing 1 of our 1600 crosses. What happens is that we take the heaviest 3 pumpkin grown out of our perspective crosses and avg them together to see who wins. We prefer them to be weighed at a GPC site but we know that may not always get to be the case. GPC rules apply for the soundness of the fruit. Now for example the average size of the three pumpkins grown say off of the 1156 Hunt totals higher than the 3 1184 Barkers grown and the 3 1262 Jutras grown then Joe and I would pay $50 to Phils club and each would purchase a club membership. This is meant to be a FUN contest where everyone growing one or more of our 1631 x 1689 crosses can participate. Speaking for myself if my 1184 producess the highest 3 pumpkin avg I will donate 3 seeds to the top 3 growers individual clubs and another 1184 to each grower.

Let the games begin. I just want to say good luck to Ron & Joe. They'll need it. LOL. Just kidding. Joe could grow 3 plants from his 1600# cross & beat us bady. He certainly is an awesome grower. This will make the season more interesting though.
Jane said that if the 1156 Hunt produces the highest 3 pumpkin average, she'll match Ron's offer to donate seeds to the top 3 grower's club & give each one another 1156.
Don't forget that the 1156 is the "GVGO seed of the Year for 2009". The GVGO member who grows the biggest pumpkin from it this season wins $500, $200 for the 2nd biggest & $100 for the 3rd largest. All GVGO members are eligible.
If you want to get in on this contest, email us & tell us you want to join the GVGO. We'll send you a big bag of seeds, with an 1156 Hunt seed included. Only a few membership seed packs are left, so don't delay. Membership does have it's benefits. Good luck to all that take up the challange & thanks for planting our seeds.

Well Ron and Phil, the seed count on both the 1600# crosses I made last year were very low. I sent out very few seeds and had some growers request them hoping that the growers that were going to want to grow them got them. If there are some growers out there that would like to grow my 1055, let me know and I'll do my best to give you one. The 1055 is the seed that I'm going to try this season, not the 1237. I will save twelve seeds for the clubs donation if the 1055 has the biggest three pumpkins also. I think any one of these 1600# crosses should be great seeds. Best of luck to all growers who participate in this challange. Joe Jutras
