Hello,
I have been growing giants for two years now and have a few questions I would love answered to get over the 1000 pound mark- Finished 2nd in WV 2 years ago and had what I estimated to be an 800 pounder until problems last year.
1st- I have never had much luck putting pallets under pumpkins and was wondering what else might work and what is best and cheap?
2nd- Have never canopied or sun shaded and was wondering if once you put canopy over pumpkin if you just leave it in place or take it down from time to time.
Thanks so much in advance for your help.

I answered your first question in New Grower's.

I prefer freestanding shade/water cover; I have slug problems and they will crawl under the sheet and eat holes in the pumpkin.

Make sure the cover can't touch the pumpkin, can't blow away or flap against the pumpkin, drains water so nothing can sag onto the pumpkin; and allows for good air circulation.

You have a lot of growers up your way, I hope one of them sees and replies. They can better help you with what shading or protection will work best for you. Here it's too hot for sheets and too many slugs.
