OK, what would spring be without a crazy contest?
The rules for this one are quite simple. The biggest official (not damaged!) pumpkin grown this year off of the 1004 Mohr 2008 wins. Pumpkin must be weighed at a GPC site, so the results will be published here and can be verified. Any pumpkins grown by me are not eligible for the contest.
Prize structure is as follows:
BIGGEST PUMPKIN WINS A 985 WERNER. As an added bonus (for all you orange lovers out there), if the winning pumpkin is over 1100 pounds, the prize will be BOTH the 985 Werner and a 772 Poirier!
about the 1004 Mohr: cross is 772 Poirier x 1317.5 Rose. The pumpkin is the biggest orange pumpkin ever grown in Colorado, and was grown in under 300 sq. feet. With the genetics of the pollinator (1370 Rose x 998 Pukos), I think it has potential to grow some monsters.
about the prize seeds: The 985 Werner was purchased a while ago when they were available for purchase for a very small amount of money. The 772 was purchased at auction.
The purpose of the contest is to get the 1004 Mohr seed in the dirt to get an idea of the shape/color/size combination of the progeny. The cross was created to merge beauty and size, and I feel that this is the best way to get a few in the ground to see what they look like.
If you are interested in the contest and need a seed, I have a few left, but my supply is getting low. They are also available at www.howarddill.com under the "2009 Orange Premium Seed List".
GOOD LUCK!

Pete,
Looks to me that the 1004 seed itself is incentive enough to grow it!
