How many AG plants do you put in the ground each season?

Because of time and space considerations, three well cared for plants works for me.

I have 7 planned, a serious swat at the state record. Just leased patch for next year, could put 12 in if I'm that braindead after this year :)

16 plants this year. 2 are already on their way for the Indiana State and Iowa State Fairs. 2 more in about 3 weeks for a carving demonstration at the Ohio State Fair and then 12 more plants for the main season. Plans are to make 8 or 9 weigh-offs this season. We made 5 last year. Top 10 at all of them.

I normally do 4 at 650 square feet each, but I'm dropping to 2 for this season. I'll be able to take better care of two, giving them more room (I plan to spyder them), hopefully less disease, and less stress on the soil. If this season goes well, I'll be back to 4 next year. I'm definitely going with a new pesticide/fungicide program.

Put in the ground or actually grow? For me there's a difference.

This year I'm thinking of concentrating on two competition plants, and another plant for pollination. In the past I've gone with 2-4 competition plants.

Five for me and one for my daughter.
Realistically, I can only give about four of them the attention they need. But I have the space, and if one of them has an issue, I can let it go.
I also double or triple-plant every site, and cull down to one in late-May.

9 plants, two more that last year, so a bit more effort to do! no problem, it is not work! this is relax! this is freedom! this is passion! this is curiosity! but but it can to be only work,if at effort did,you have not a good, cold, foamy beer!
