I just got my seeds for this year in the mail. Will they be alright in the little paper envelopes they came in until i plant them in the end of April or should i freeze them or something?

Thanks

Mister, I put the envelope in a zip loc bag and place it in the freezer.

room temp and dry is fine.

I don't bother with a freezer unless they're seeds you're planning on holding for 10 years or more.

mine are in the envelopes in the aquarium (planting site) in the basement.

I use the plastic sheets that hold baseball cards. They are the perfect size to hold either paper envelopes or the plastic bags. I then put them into a 3 ring binder and categorized how i want them. I don't freeze them, I just keep them dry and in a cool place.

I've been putting my envelopes on end in the bottom half of 2# Velveeta cheese boxes, numbering the box, and I can pop them in the freezer in a big ziplock in a soda flat... still in their box "trays"

Inventory is on computer by box, so I can easily find that seed... You can get 50-100 envelopes in a box.

That's a good idea Deb, but that would require eating Velveeta. I prefer to store mine alphabetically in plastic pencil boxes from Staples, separated by index cards that I've cut down to fit, then put them in the fridge.

They have a new system out now that haZ special freeZzer bags that triple seal at the opening. It also haZ a handheld little vacumn (sic....lol) device that sucks all the air from the bag while itZ closed from a specially designed lil circle....<MAGIC>..... Ill post pics of it...I froZe all my SNGPG BUB seedZ this way and it really worked well. Should extend the life of storage for the seedZ. Problem iZ itZ not something you would get in and out of a lot. So include an inventory list inside the bag so you can see what the bag containsZ.....GrowZem BIG

i was told not to leave the silica packets in with the seeds for more than 4 days. seeds need some moisture to live. any longer and the seeds get the life (moisture) sucked out of them.
