Has any of your growing buddies ever surprised you with a monster pumpkin at a weigh off that you had no idea about? Ha!,,,,,Anyone?

I know I try to do this every year but cant seem to keep my big mouth shut for it to be called a official Sand Bagging,,lol!! How many growers plan on sandbagging this year??,,,or would it be sandbagging if you told someone you was Sandbagging?

I think Glenn Andrews has turned over a new leaf this year, and I seriously doubt he will Sand Bag if he grows , dont you guys think so???,,,,lol!!

The last time i made a remark about sandbagging i was accused of being upset about someone peeing in my corn flakes.
However, at the risk of being accused of eating tainted cereal again let me say this about SANDBAGGERS. lol

The problem with sand bagging is theres a certain degree of fibbin and passing on of misinformation involved.
it starts out innocent enough, then as the season goes on and the same people talk to you? ya gotta fib some more.
i have always felt honesty was the best policy.

Then again ? for the nosey call me every week grower ? lie you ass off. He or she is probably doing the same to you anyway. pap

I've never had a pumpkin big enough to sandbag with but I would think it's all in good fun! I know we take them pretty seriously but they are just pumpkins for petes sake.

It's not like your lying to your wife about where you were last night, your underestimating a circumfrence by 30 or so inches, or maybe your using the wrong end of the tape. Believe me if I had one big enough to sandbag I'd give it a try, but like Brooks my big mouth would probably get in the way!

I forgot about this, last year I did some reverse sandbagging, I never even made 500#'s last year but NSBz and some of the Island guys were convinced I had a monster going! So there you go Brooks try that, it's easy to keep your mouth shut when your only sitting at 270 inches in mid September!

I vote we all tell everyone what we have in phone calls and visits every week..in emails and in chat....then we wiegh them at home and make more phone calls....that way there will be no surprises, no exitement, everyone knows what everyone has and we won't have to have a wieghoff....

I doubt anyone will have to worry about me sandbagging with my pumpkins. Well maybe Tom Privitera in the Virtual Weigh-Off. LOL

Big Tomato Growers might get a surprise this year though. :)

In Napa we have about a dozen growers who live within 10 minutes of one another.
We will sometimes kid one another about sand bagging, but in reality we just don't see it here.

sandbagging...what's that? I'm taking the year off, just going to relax. Maybe I'll plant the pretty flower garden my wife has been asking me about. I could catch up on all the books I've always wanted to read. This summer all my outside time is going to be spent on watering my yard, mowing and fertilizing and maintaining the bushes and trees. Maybe, just maybe, I'll take up yoga!! This summer is going to be so much fun since I won't be growing pumpkins! Sandbagging, never heard of it!!

Brooks - without a lot of hard work and discipline, your just naturally to gregarious and nice to be a good sandbagger. but if you want to give it a try .. email me and we'll help you with some good techniques that could make a big difference. we wouldn't want to post them here right? !

humm ... I wonder if a "how to sandbag" DVD would work as a fundraiser for the club? ... just three easy payments of or $9.99 each plus shipping and handling ... but if you act now we'll drop one of your payments. ...
