Which weighoff do you want to be ready for, what date? You count backwards from there, approximately 180 days...

Around here we start about the first of May. Last week of April if you are ready with a little greenhouse.

make sure you have them well protected and keep them warm outside or else they will just kinda stay neutral till the weather warms up, learned that one last year

Here in Ohio I will start my seed on May 1 st and hopefully have them outside in the cold frames by May 5th or 6th.
This year I might start a couple seeds a few days later then that because of weigh offs being the second week of October.

I started using heating cables a couple years ago, in combination with mini-greenhouses. I have always used some sort of mini- greenhouse over them for the first couple weeks.
The cables do help a little, i'll continue to use them.
Yep, roughly 150 days and i'm shooting for a pollination around July 1, so the pumpkin is going to be 90-100+ days old, depending on the weighoff date.
