Ok I decided to put on a pumpkin boat race for after the weigh offs. I have talked to a couple resivoirs about putting it on there. Talked to a vender about a trophy and banner.
What else should I be thinking about? After talking to local growers I decided that I will grow a pumpkin just for the pumpkin boat race. so a pumpkin will be there to be used to race
If I keep it under 5-10 pumpkins I may not have to have insurance. (that may be expensive.) I am working with a radio station to promote it. They loved the idea.
I relize that the first yr the costs will come out of my own pocket, but I hopefully will keep em low.
Any advice? I'll take all I can get.

I am working with a radio station to promote it. They loved the idea. But they may not contribute anything except PR.
I am hoping to use a lake in Boulder county Colorado .not boulder res to much paper work. I am thinking of hosting it the sat after the last weigh off. I may need an extra pumpkin. I plan on growing one pumpkin just for the pumpkin race. I hope to have 2 pumpkins from our patch for the race. I may have two catagories for boat races. One for the growers who grew it.My have a cash prize and trophy.
One group for those who want to race but have no pumpkin.(I am thinking of charging for this catagory to help offset the costs.)
No one under 18yrs of age will be allowed to race. libility reasons
I relize that the first yr the costs will come out of my own pocket, but I hopefully will keep em low. But I am hoping that if I can get good pr I may be able to get sponsors and turn this into a nice sized even.

First, figure out how and where you're going to get them into the water.
You need to decide if you'll be gutting the seeds on site or not. If on-site, figure out what to do with the guts. You'll also be dealing with a swarm of onlookers if you do it there, which can be good but expect a lot of seed beggars.
Have sets of kayak paddles. Manpower is quicker to set up than a motor (i think - i've never done a motor),just don't make the course too long.
I would say be careful where you cut the hole, but the crowd loves it when someone gets wet, haha

Captain, send me an email. [email protected]
I'll help out as much as I can. I've never organized one, but I've raced in a few.

With my recent girth modification, I'd need a Sherber or Sawtelle.I could probably fit into a Grande as well just don't tell EddyZ.

Shaker just come to watch. I relize that the first yr will be interesting but I will hopefully have a pumpkin that anyone who would like to try it could.
