my pacth only gets about 5-6 hours fo full sunlight and bits and pices of it during the day. how much will that effect the the growth of a pumpkin?
I have two black walnuts and a sliver maple in the way my mom will not let me cut them down wise I could find someone to cut them down.

Those black walnuts give off something that inhibits growth of plants around them... can you raise your bed at least?

Those black walnuts produce a chemical called Juglone that will kill some plants and stop or slow down the growth on others.

I would find a different place to grow.

I have three Black Walnut stumps under my patch, not to metion a few oaks and ash and 5 walnut trees around the edge of my patch, you may not want to grow reg. veggies by them but I think Dill's are ok to grow by them, I did in 2006 and 2007 I did ok.Can you trim them trees so you get more light at least? One thing with the Maples, they are soft and will drop so make sure they are not hanging over the patch.

I have a bunch of walnuts growing on one side of my patch and they don't bother the pumpkins. I would at least try to trim the trees up to get more sunlight. Just don't trim ther maples in the spring until after the sap stops flowing. I would also rake up any walnuts and leaves and keep them off the patch. And deep tilling might cut off some of the shallower roots that get into the patch.

Find another place 5-6 hours of light will most likely inhibit growth. You will not be able to get anything big in that location. I dont want you to waste your season in a location that is not good to grow in.
