I take what I can get, which is usually horse, but if there was cow available then it would be the choice.

I live next to a horse racing track so I can get all the horse manure I want for free. If I had to but it I would by the cow, it seems everyone here uses cow.

Compost both first if you can. I have had my best results both pumpkins and weeds with Horse.

Richard, racetrack is a great place for your manure....free and won't have weed seeds as the hay they feed racehorses is generally top quality with no weed seeds.
There is sometimes some undigested oats that might want to sprout...but not if it is all properly composted before use.

I prefer the extra potassium found in house but more weeds unless it is composted.

with horse manure there are usually wood shavings that will eat up the nitrogen i prefer the cow myself and i will compost it for three years

Horse here, only because it was easier to get. Cook it down good, no weed problems:

I'm going the liberal route this year and we are all going to be vegetarians here. We'll have three portapotty's in the patch and rake it out as needed. After all our digestive systems work basically the same way. I may have just started a movement, lol. They will be pushing this idea and I won't get a word of credit.Watch, lol
