"Year after year Al Eaton put out his list of top seeds & mothers to help growers pick out the most promising seeds. We have noticed that GVGO seeds hardly ever make the list . To help convince our member's to grow more of our seeds the GVGO has decided to change it's grower's challenge & contests for growing new GVGO seeds & will now choose one seed each year with a very promising cross (seeds must be from a different member each year) & promote it as the GVGO Seed of the Year for that season.

For the 2009 growing season, the GVGO has decided to name the very promising 1156 Hunt/08 (1631.5 Mckie x 1689 Jutras) as the GVGO seed of the year. Grow the heaviest pumpkin from this seed in 2009 and win $500, $200 for second and $100 for the third heaviest. You have to be a member of the GVGO in good standing as of May 1st 2009 to participate and the prizes will be paid out in Canadian funds. This seed has the genetic potential to take you over the top and into pumpkin supremacy in 2009. Don't regret not planting it, make space if you have to - grass will grow back! This seed will be put in all of the GVGO membership seed packs sent out this year.

To have your seed considered for the 2010 season, you obviously need to have a great cross, controlled pollination (no open pollinations will be considered), enough seeds to give each GVGO member a seed + donate another 30-50 seeds for future fundraisers'
& seed sales. A total of approx 350-375 seeds are required, depending on membership totals. Contact us after your seeds are dried next fall if you want your seed to be considered for the 2010 season. The executive will vote to decide the seed of choice. We hope you'll support this new idea to prove that GVGO seeds are as good as any being auctioned off each winter. Will you be our 1st winner? Thanks for your support. Good luck.

Kirk thanks for the update. I can't wait to get Phil's 1156 into my prime patch location. The 1156 and the new GVGO secret sauce mix should do the trick nicely. It was a pleasure to see you and all the Ontario growers at your place.

I think in future though we should develop a secret handshake or maybe lower the cone of silence. Those Topsfield boys will be after us by this time next year!

I wanted to let you know that on my way back home I followed one of the guys all the way to Bridge North and got turned around going north instead of west. After driving south for a 1/2 hour I finally found hwy #7 and headed home. The return trip was over 3 hours long. It still made for a fun day though.

The next GVGO Gathering is at my home on Friday evening April 3rd for the second annual pre-seminar growers party in Thornton Ontario, All GVGO growers are welcome.

Interestingly the 1631 Mckie went 4 0f 4 over a thousand pounds last summer.

Joes 1689 went 11 for 12 over a thousand pounds.

Is there any better new cross out there for 2009 than the 1156 Hunt 2008?
