Some fellow growers here in Nova Scotia have approached me with an idea of creating a new separate class of competition here in Windsor being; "The Orange Division" Details will be worked out. Pumpkins will be judged basically the same as the HD award criteria (color, shape, etc), minimum weight, perhaps, 300 lbs. These pumpkins will not be part of the GPC/HD award competition. I guess it enables those growers who may have a second "pretty" pumpkin to show and those who are not yet ready for the 'majors' (i.e. Heavy Hitter level) I look at it as a 'pumpkin draft'....scouting new future big n'orange growers! I think every weighoff should have an Orange Division, or essentially their own Howard Dill Award. I think those nominated for this division should be noted at the beginning of each weighoff, and then a vote box should be prominently placed where all attendees (all spectators) can have one vote in the contest. Maybe designate one person helping with the weighoff, to hand out the official voting slips, to prevent any individual from voting too many times.
It gives more growers a chance to be recognized, and all the people at the weighoff a chance to participate. I like it.

I like the idea of growing fruit that are first orange, next round and last giant in size. So a class for orange sounds good to me.
