I have tickets to see the Bruins play the Canadiens at the Fleet Centre on April 9th so have therefore, planned a 10-day holiday around the event. Can anyone help me with holiday planning?
1) I am looking for a nice (probably higher end) hotel close to the Fleet Centre - is this a "safe" area?
2) What attractions are a "must see" - (I only have 8 days in reality, when you include driving time)
3) What can I expect weather wise
4) Please include any other information you may feel is useful.
Please, either reply on this discussion or email me directly at [email protected]. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

The Omni Parker House is a good hotel. I am not sure about parking though. It is within walking distance to alot of Boston's major attractions, including Faneuil Hall,Boston Common and the Public Gardens,The Fleet Center, and the North End (Great Italian food). Faneuil Hall marketplace has alot of restaurants, bars & shops. Also, you can catch the T (subway) to get to most places in Boston. The T actually goes right to the Fleet Center. Driving in Boston can be a real pain. You can also take the Boston Duck Tours & check out the city & it's history. The weather can still be cold in April so be prepared. The Boston Harbor Hotel is very nice too and is right on the harbor. If you don't mind driving you may get a better deal at the Doubletree Suites Boston or in Cambridge just across the Charles River. Of course you have to check out Fenway Park! Paul

If you are into American History the Freedom trail is a must!!! The freedom Trail is a walking trail that goes right through the city to a bunch of great historic sites. it's free!!!
Also Plymouth Rock is to the south maybee about 1 to 1.5hrs away. It's ok, It looked like a broken rock in prison to me, but still cool to see.
Salem is about .5 to .75 hrs to the north, there is decent historic sites there but it is mainly a big tourist trap, don't recommend unless your really into witches!

The first question that must be answered before any others is who are you routing for? Once that is answered then maybe information from us Bostonians will be put forth....:)

i would say Fanuel Hall. Plenty to do. USS Constitution if you are looking for educational and impressive. Lots of good seafood with tons of history. There is a great subway system. Also, if you get bored, go find the pumpkin shack and have a beer with Ron and Pap in RI. Cape Cod is nice all year. You should be able to find lots to do up and down the east coast and may want to visit Portland, ME or the other way, Newport, RI. If you are rich and really bored, take a trip to the casinos, Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods in CT.

I met someone out here who was bragging about taking a leak on Plymouth Rock. Just saying....It was him not me, but after a few drinks it seemed kinda funny.

Just got back from a Boston Bruin road trip, 12 hour drive from here in Windsor, Nova Scotia; Birthplace of Hockey and perhaps "Boston Bruin Country" outside the USA. Had a great time, saw Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Bruins held their annual charity, Sunday, Jan.4 - met Savard, Kessel, Ryder and toured the dressing room. Chara has his own corner. Terrific atmosphere now in Beantown, especially after beating the Habs last night. We stayed downtown on Arlington Street, took green line (sub-way) to North Station, $4.00 return. Great bunch of people, had a nice chat with Julian (coach), and Bruins camera man - he was here 2 years ago to film Long Pond for a NESN production. Drove by Topsfield with a 1700 lb+ pumpkin but they were closed. Oh well, next year. GO BRUINS! Danny
PS Our seats were 6 rows from the top where the "real fans were"! Big Dave would have been proud.

Well of course I am rooting for Boston - doesn't that go without saying - our seats are in row AA - Club Section 143. Thanks for all your help guys, please keep it coming. Looked at the Omni Parker House's website - I'm pretty sure that is where we will try to get a suite.
Sounds like a great trip Danny (I believe I am about 12 hours away as well) - hopefully I will have as much luck meeting some players - I'd like to do a morning yoga workout with Tim Thomas! Last night's game got me even more excited about this trip planning. GO BRUINS!

I think you will like the Omni Parker House. The Parker House is a nice hotel & is in walking distance to Faneuil Hall, the Green & Orange line (subway). You should check out the Bell & Hand Tavern, Union Oyster House, Purple Shamrock,Durgin Park Restaurant, & the Black Rose (a real Irish bar). Also, near the Fleet Center Fours Restaurant & the Harp are good too. Paul PS. Danny I am jealous!

Every Time I go to Boston, I make sure to go to the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain. Their are a wide variety of trees from all over the world, with some fantastic specimens.
