I was able to make a cross I wanted last year, but the only thing is, it turned out to be a big wheel. Now, my question is, will that plant have a greater chance of growing wheels in the future or will there be a chance of getting "normal"pumpkins on the vine as well?

I have a dumb question? What do you mean by "a big wheel?" I never heard this term before.

Just curious

Thanks,

Frank

a wheel pumpkin is very tall off the ground, but not very long from stem to blossom.

I think the wheel would have a better chance of producing future wheels, but it depends on what the pollinator was like.

hi mark,I think the anser is yes "to will I have greater chance of growing a wheel".However they can be unpredictable.Like orangeneck says it depends on the pollinator and which parent has the dominant trait. You would have to grow it to find out.

I think this is could easily be a genetically controlled trait. How many genes are involved, which alleles are dominant? This is exactly the kind of question that someone with access to aggc could probably answer. Anyone?

Mark,
I think the 1068 Wallace was a wheel-shaped pumpkin, that looked like it was tipped onto it's stem end. It doesn't seem prone to wheel-shaped offspring.

cojoe, and all...would growing "one" of these seeds, give you a true indication of what shape fruit these seeds will produce, ?? Or will several have to be grown to know? Peace, Wayne
