My sister was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes when she was 10. The best thing you can do Lee is change the way the whole house eats. Don't keep much candy in the house. Also get him on the pump as soon as you can.

The candy thing kinda sucked from my side of things, but my sister was able to go to college as a division I softball player and break many school records. Because she is in pretty good health.

My mom is an awesome resource and is always happy to help. Tell her I sent you [email protected].

Diabetes sucks, but its not a death sentence. With determination and perseverance, you'll get through.

I also heard of some tests up in canada where they were taking the islet of langerhans sp? cells and implanting them in the liver. Last I heard, the test patients were 5 years out and for all intents and purpose cured. Your son may be a prime candidate for that given his age and the fact that he probably still has a large number of live islet cells remaining.

Fifty years ago, juvenile diabeties was nearly a "death sentence". However in the 21st century, things have changed and young diabetics can live to collect Social Security...if they behave themselves and develope self control.
