I don't know if you're into hand-loading your own ammo but, if you are, here is a great tip:

CCI primers
41 grains of Hodgdon H380 powder
55 grain Hornady V-Max bullets

500 yard shots are not out of the question with the right glass on your rifle. That 55 grain bullet will buck wind more easily and is devastating on varmints.

I own a Ruger M-77 in 22-250 with a 3 x 12 Sightron scope and am amazed at its capability with little elevation downrange. Coupled with sandbags for stability, it has made me a more disciplined shooter with ALL firearms.

thanks for the info. just getting into the sport. will look for the hornady's as a 500 yard shot in this area is not uncommon.
