Just curious, is there any other rival growers out there, and should there be? This could be really fun!!!!. Call someone out...lets go. My old rival quit growing, so it may be time to pick a new one.

I like giving it to Shazzy. He beat me this year. I got him last year... Its just fun notching it up a level. We got a 1200lb challenge in 2009 and he is going to pay

How about a “Ryder cup” pumpkin challenge this year, Europe V USA, Stuart’s idea last summer which is good for me. I’m sure we can get a team captain each and work out a few rules and it can only add a little more fun to the year. Ian

I like that idea Ian. You, Jos, Lilja maybe against three of the top growers here that want to participate and take the combined weight.

bring it george!!!!!!!!! get your self a good smart mouthed rival and it will motivate you to do great things. just ask george. he got me off the barstool last year and into the patch more often with his weak attempt at sarcasm and his witless approach at verbal bantering. he pressed the wrong button last year and it may cost him for ever. come get me buddy, i got the poundage lead in both pumpkins and belly size. no soup for you!!!!!!!! best of luck and merry x mas george, and ya better make a new years resolution to take down the fatman from joliet. 3rd place 2 years ago and 2nd place last year. you know the progression......show me the igpga belt in 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about a nomination process on both sides of the Atlantic. The nominees that accept will then be on a ballot with a voting process to follow.

What about Canada? Are we talking North America VS Europe or US VS The World here? Or is this a three way?

Or to make it a true north american team we need to nominate at least one Canadien.

It's easy getting Shazzy fired up as you see. I think you should send that 1385 to South America so the natives can plant it in the Biochar. You fool... I see no pumpkins for you in 09... Go back to Bobbie's Tap and have one on me

Doc Gipe(Dwaine)and Steve(Tremor) used to go toe to toe regularly back a few years ago. It was hilarious to watch the Doc spew at Steve. It never got ugly though, it was just good Ag stuff Steve against an organic anti- establishment Doc.
Geeze Brett, Ive been trying to fight my way out this wet paper bag I've been stuck in for years.......

The North Shore Boyz group had had a pretty good rivaly over the years with several of us.
Mostly it is just me and Gilmore giving the gears to the Lawman as you can see at this post;
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=78620
But every once in awhile Gilmore comes up with a good one like this;
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=79635
This year Gilmore reminded me that since we met in 2005, that he has outgrown me every year....but since he did not show up at the weigh-off this year...his credibility is shot.

Guys, maybe this is a good time for me to bring up an idea that I've had for several years.
"Giant Pumpkin World Cup"
This is fashioned after some soccer leagues (bear with me!) around the world.
There are three divisions, A, B, and C. Ten teams (which, for the current time, are US states, Canadian provinces, and other countries) compete in Group A. Ten teams compete in Group B. And all others compete in Group C. For example, Oregon, Ontario, and Belgium might be teams in one of the groups.
You just take the 10 largest sound fruit grown by each "team", add it up and that's your score. Group A and B are scored this way. Group C is similar, but you only average the top 5 fruit instead of the top 10.
Now, here is the kicker... The worst two teams in Group A are "DEMOTED" to Group B for the upcoming year! Naturally, the two best teams in Group B get promoted to Group A in the following year. There is a similar shuffling between Group B and Group C. This creates a lot of fun... a lot of friendly discussion about beating this team or that team, etc. Who's going to get demoted, who is going to move up, etc.
My own state, Idaho, would quite frankly be in Group C, I believe. But that's OK. It would be a fun challenge for the growers in our state (our team) to do well enough to win Group C and move up to Group B! (I'm not saying that's going to happen............. OR AM I?) ha ha, let the fun begin...

Please let me know what you think, and if I can explain anything... For starters, I don't know who is going to be the "grand-poobah" and figure out the data for the first year. Any suggestions?

Ned Sandercock and I have been rivaling since we both tied with 803 pounders years ago in Altoona. The show moved this year to Cooperstown, but the rivalry is now known as the "Get the 1000 pound monkey off my back" rivalry.
You are mine in 09 Ned!

There seems to be a good rivalry in Des Moines between Don and Julie. Of course together they are becoming big rivals of all the other growers who compete at Anamosa.
