Ok...where do we start. The soil test has been done and garden is looking good. The seeds are picked to germinate. Give me a play by play if you will as to what I use and when. for example....#1 pre-soak the seeds in a Granular Humates solution for ....apply fish to leaves every 10 days....apply kelp by foliar feeding....Tell me how you do it, step by step!

Well....FIRST...I'd get "How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins II". Read it about five times.

No but I am dreaming of it. There is so much to learn and I am not sure how to use each of the products. I have purchased them for 2009 and they don't have directions or labels. I googled them but it isn't clear. I was wondering what others do. For example we all know one starts with the seed. We file it, soak it and put it in an enviorment to germinate. Ok! But there are serval ways people do this. Some use peroxide and some a system insecticide and some granular humates! Now the application of microhaze should be to the roots of the plant before potting or before transplanting! There are so many variables. It would be nice to get a play by play. Stan says buy "How To Grow World Class Pumpkins II" and to read it through 5 times. This might be excellent advice. Does the book explain what you do or what I should do, play by play? Does this only come by trial and error or through years of experience?

There is plenty of info to learn for sure. Last year I choose 3 BEST things which I felt if I did could get me 100 lbs each since my PB was 659. I choose, start my seed earlier, so I needed to make a hoop house to get it in earlier. Water Better and more consistently. So I installed and setup an under the leaf canopy watering system. ANd third....BURY and cultivate religously"l Work Harder"..... It worked out pretty good. This year I will do it again. Think of 3 different things that if done should give me more lbs, research it and make it work for me.

I'd start by picking a few topics that interest you and start going through this site looking for what other people have been doing. As suggested How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins II & III are also good resources. If you like you can go to my pumpkin blog and read my entire season from beginning to end (www.denverpumpkins.com). In it I give tips and also a blow by blow for each week of the season. I'm not the best grower on bp.com but it is a good place to start.

M3F2, Ok now I understand your question. Now your gonna get a lot and I MEAN ALOT of answers to your post, some will be good while most will be extreamly time consuming. And although growing big pumpkins are very time consuming, we new growing have a "one up" on some of the veteran growers. These growers had to learn by trial and error. While we have the things like the internet and other learning aids. Now I was faced with the very same questions that you this year LAST YEAR. It was my first and I just need words and pictures to understand. Well there is such a thing. Its is called "DICKS TIPS 2". This book is very down to earth and not over the top and hard to understand. This reading is just what you need. And for only 14 dollars it will not only put you on the right road to a personal best, you will have at your disposal years and years of trial and error, research from some of the best growers and people you will ever meet. Do yourself a favor and make this your next purchase. Hope this helps happy holidays. Chris

Teaming with Microbes is a great book if you plan on growing organically, though it's not specific to giant pumpkins.
