i have personally seen a pumpkin that was grown in tree from a shooting secondary that got to near 200 lbs and was still suspended in the air. it got supported with a barrell at that point.
and i just ran into a guy i gave seeds to that said he gave some to a farmer friend who planted them in an old massive tree trunk. the old bottom piece of the trunk of the dead tree stood at 12' tall and over 4 foot in diameter. he loaded a bunch a composted manure in the old tree with a backhoe and planted the the ag seeds and let mother nature take its coarse.
the result from what i have heard was that they had people stopping and asking what the hell it was. it looked crazy with all the hanging vines with huge leaves and multiple dangling pumpkins from which i was told were over the 200 lb range. i am still trying to hunt down a picture, but thought i would share the story. it made me smile.
anyone else ever doing anything silly with these freaks with some extra seeds for the hell of it. anyone else have any tree pumpkin stories or pictures. left unchecked, i have heard of them growing from the roof tops of garages or anywhere else the vines get a hold of.

seen a guy grow a vine in along the front of his house about 6 feet, then, trained it up the downspout to the roof and grew a couple 150 pounders on the roof.
was an interesting thing to see when ya drove by his place.

One of our growers had one of hers escape over back fence and grow into the trees along the alley. More like 40# but it looked strange hanging out like a big orange peach under the tree branches. We labelled it a 'Treekin'
