im going with a greenie in 2009 because i think its time to try something different.
i always said i would never grow a green squash and yet ? here i am. jumping on the green machine bandwagon.

after 20 years of giant pumpkins i figured its time to squeeze some green into the patch.
i have a great new spot all ammended and ready to go. have the 848 from a couple seasons back and will go with that for starters.

not sure yet but im thinking to cross the 848 with the 1450 wallace, then next year grow out the resulting seed and gross the 848 back into it again (to keep hopefully the green squash color but pick up the heavy gene from the 1450)
whats your reason for jumping on the green squash ?

I'm staying orange, but I know a number of people took Erin's (Boom Boom) challenge of growing her 605* for 2009.... that one is already causing fert to fly in chat. Ought to be a great year for green. Anyone else reading this that wants to join that should get ahold of Erin.

Its been several seasons since we have grown a greenie and thought we would try it again. We still have some of our 834* left so will try one of them in 09.

Pap, someday maybe green, but for now staying with heavy orange. I've got alot to prove to my better half still that I can make that 1000 pound marker in 2009. As someone here has said before, it's time to get that monkey off your back and grow a bigger pumpkin. That is the aim for this coming season, orange and over 1000. Wish me luck! Good luck to all going green in 2009!

My son went with me to Cooperstown and saw Karl Haist's monster 1177 U.S. record and wants to grow a greenie. This will be the first greenie in my patch in 4 years. It is also my son's first attempt at a monster fruit, so it will be a great learning experience for him. I believe we will be going with either Karl's seed (still have to send him an bubble) or one of the Hilstolsky's big ones.

Couple of reasons for me.

- Short growing season in Finland, max about 60 days for fruit so greens will have great colour easier than pumpkins. Pumpkin rec. in Finland over 650, no rec. for squash, only my tiny UOW 140 here. So chance to get that rec. easier than in pumpkins... First weigh-off in 2008 here, visitors thought that all kins over 150 were plastic...Wait till they see one big greenie....
And of course some nice green seeds heading my way...

I was going to go green in 08' but for whatever reason did not. I have an 848* from the GVGO seed giveaway burning a hole in my cold storage, so it just might be taken out and grown in 09'.

Let's face it.......it's the only realistic chance C&P (Carlson/Petersen) had at setting a WR!!!!Might have gotten there with a 376" greenie that went down 2 days before weigh in back in 2004 (pre 1000 for a squash) ...unknown split somewhere obviously....But hey....1200 plus is still within range....Greenie in our patch in 2009 for sure..last years squash went flat vined and we culled the plant...hey it happens.

I may throw my hat in as well. Back in the day, squash took up as much room in my patch as the pumpkins.
I'll roll with an 895 and a 848. Give the old dog, 895, one more shot unless the 900 Lyons germinates.

I think Vineman is growing green so he has a chance at winnig something. Sound like he is going to have more competition than he thought.
